Bristol Welcomes Landmark 20,000-Capacity Live Music and Comedy Arena in 2028
Bristol is set to welcome a major new chapter in live entertainment with the announcement of the Aviva Arena, a 20,000-capacity venue opening in 2028 at Brabazon in Filton.
Developed by YTL, the arena will be the first of its scale in the west of England, transforming one of the historic Brabazon Hangars into a world-class home for live music, comedy and major touring productions. Designed to host around 120 events a year and attract up to 1.4 million visitors annually, it promises to put the region firmly on the global entertainment map.
The fully electric venue will feature flexible stage configurations, extensive production facilities and capacity for up to 60 touring lorries, making it one of the most advanced arenas in Europe. With 20 dressing rooms and large-scale backstage infrastructure, it is built to attract the biggest names in music and comedy.
The arena forms part of the wider Brabazon regeneration project, which includes new homes, green space and improved transport links. The new Filton North railway station, opening nearby, will provide direct connections to Bristol Temple Meads, making access straightforward for audiences across the region.
Around 2,000 construction jobs are expected during the build, with a further 500 permanent roles once operational. Over its first decade, the venue is projected to contribute £1bn to the local economy.
When it opens, the Bristol arena will be the third largest indoor arena in the UK, comparable in size to The O2, and positioned to compete with Manchester’s major venues — marking a significant moment for the city’s cultural future.
